ALBA provide houses for Haitians
Haitians displaced by the massive January 12 earthquake are to benefit from housing solutions from the Bolivarian Alliance for the People of Our Americas (ALBA).
Elio Garcia, the local representative of the ALBA Building Company, says the first batch of the 500 houses promised prior to the quake has been completed and is ready to be handed over.
After Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez visited Haiti in 2007, the ALBA Building Company, a company jointly-owned by Cuba and Venezuela, was given the mission of building the homes.
Garcia says the 80 two-bedroom houses that have been finished and another 40 should be ready for handover later this month.
He says none of the houses were damaged as a result of the earthquake.
Hundreds of thousands of Haitians are waiting for proper housing after the quake left more than a million people homeless.
