Britain says it will impose tougher sanctions on people who hide their money in offshore financial centres.
Finance Minister Alistair Darling made the announcement in his budget speech yesterday.
The move is aimed at clamping down on tax evaders.
It’s supported by government members in light of allegations of some Members of Parliament having accounts at tax havens.
Deputy Chairman of the Opposition Conservatives, Lord Ashcroft, has recently disclosed that he’s not paying British tax on his income earned overseas in countries such as Belize and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
His tax status has been the subject of a long running political row in Britain.
