Vere, Wolmer’s still lead at Champs
Many time champions Vere Technical have opened up an 11point lead after three girls finals on today’s second day of the centennial staging of the four-day ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships at the National Stadium.
Vere, who led with 16 points after yesterday’s opening day, have surged to 26 after Chennel Palmer won the Class Three High Jump, the only final to be completed so far on day two.
The Clarendon-based schools is 11 ahead of second place Wolmer’s on 15, followed by Convent of Mercy on 13, defending champions Holmwood 13, St Hughs and St Elizabeth Technical on nine and favorites Edwin Allen eight.
Palmer achieved victory by clearing 1.70 metres, to turn back the challenge of the Convent of Mercy pair of Tatiana Wolfe and Krista-Gay Taylor, who both cleared 1.65 metres.
The Girls Class 4 Long Jump and Shot Put Open are now on track, while the Class Two Long Jump, the last girls final for today, is scheduled to start at 6.10 p.m.
The boys’ standings remained the same as yesterday as no other finals have been completed. Wolmer’s Boys lead with 16 points, 10 ahead of second place Campion College after one final.
Calabar are third on five, followed by St George’s on four and defending champions Kingston College on three.
