Holmwood joins Manchester on top

Reigning girls’ champions Holmwood Technical have joined Manchester High atop the standings following the completion of one final on today’s third day of the centennial staging of the four-day ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls’ Championship at the National Stadium.



Holmwood Technical, who entered the penultimate day in third position with 27 points, moved to joint first with Manchester High after Cassandra Bennett finished sixth in the Javelin Open final with a throw of 33.37 metres.



Both schools are locked on 30 points after seven finals, one ahead of St Jago High who finished one-two in the Javelin Open final.



Kellion Knibb took the gold medal with a throw of 41.04metres, while Tanesha Clarke was second with a throw of 40.72 metres.



The top two are followed by Vere Technical and Edwin Allen on 28 each, St Hugh’s 25 and St Elizabeth Technical High 16.



Thirteen other girls’ finals are scheduled for today.



After five boys’ finals, Calabar have surged ahead leaving defending champions Kingston College in third.



The Red Hills-based school lead with 53 points, 17 ahead of first day leader Wolmer’s Boys on 36, while KC holds the third position with 34, followed by Jamaica College on 21 and St George’s College 9, Munro 5.5, and Campion and Glengoffe six each.



Eleven boys’ finals will be contested today, including the 1500 metres for all classes, 100 metres for all classes and 400-metre hurdles.
