Antiguan Parliament gets lifeline

High Court judge David Harris has granted an interim stay of the ruling nullifying the election of three government MPs including Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer.
Justice Harris approved the request for the stay during an ex-parte hearing with the three United Progressive Party candidates and their lawyers.
April 16 has been set for the Opposition Antigua Labour Party to bring a motion against the stay.
That means that Prime Minister Spencer, Tourism Minister John Maginley and Education Minister Jacqui Quinn-Leandro, will remain as MPs until their appeal is heard.
Their removal from Parliament would shift the balance of power from nine Government MPs and six Opposition members to an even six on both sides.
