China has agreed to negotiate possible sanctions against Iran over its failure to comply with international regulations involving its nuclear energy program.
This was disclosed yesterday by United States permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Susan Rice.
According to Ambassador Rice, China’s commitment represents progress because it did not previously support stronger sanctions against Iran.
The US and its allies have for sometime been seeking to have Iran face stronger action over its nuclear programme.
They claim that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons, but the Iranian government has said that its intension is to peacefully develop the country’s nuclear energy capability.
