Gayle fails but Kolkata win
West Indies captain Chris Gayle failed but his Kolkata Knight Riders still did enough to beat Deccan Chargers by 24 runs to post their fourth win and second in three outings in the Indian Premier League today.
The left-handed Gayle mustered just four from seven balls as the hosts rattled up 181 for six off their allotted 20 overs after choosing to bat at Eden Gardens.
West Indies pace sensation Kemar Roach went wicket-less in four expensive overs, which cost 48 runs, his second successive game without a scalp.
South African opener Herchelle Gibbs than smacked 50 from 45 balls and Australian Andrew Symonds chipped in with 45 from 37 but Deccan Chargers could only reach 157 for five.
The competition continues tomorrow with Kings Eleven Punjab facing Royal Challengers Bangalore.
