Deonarine warms up for 20/20
West Indies batsman Narsingh Deonarine warmed up for the upcoming World Twenty/Twenty Championship with a fluent half-century in the final of the inaugural Demerara Cricket Club 15/15 festival at the weekend.
The left-hander, who was in good form against Zimbabwe recently, smashed a Man-of-the-Match 28-ball 54 as New Line Cavaliers took the title with a 10-run victory.
Deonarine slammed three fours and five sixes as his side racked up 153 all out off 14.5 overs, and Georgetown Cricket Club could only muster 143 for seven from their allotted overs.
Former West Indies Under-19 opener Richard Ramdeen slammed 42 from 25 balls to support Deonarine as Ravi Sarwan, a former Guyana youth player and younger brother of senior West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan, took two for 15 with his off-spin.
The right-handed Ramnaresh Sarwan, who missed the Zimbabwe one-day series recovering from injury, showed no signs of discomfort during his attractive 16-ball 29 in a losing effort for Georgetown Cricket Club.
Guyana left-hander Vishal Singh used the scoop and reverse sweeps to good effect in his 28-ball 43 while left-hander Leon Johnson, who has played three One-Day Internationals for West Indies, made 25 for Georgetown Cricket Club.
