Jamaica win 2010 CARIFTA Games

Jamaica continued their dominance at the CARIFTA Games by winning their 26th straight title at the 2010 championships which ended last night in the Cayman Islands.



On the final day, the Jamaicans won 13 gold medals including three of the four relays to end with a medal haul of 67 including 35 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze.



Jamaica finished well ahead of second place Trinidad and Tobago, who ended with 38 medals including 11 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze.



The Bahamas were third with 29 medals including six gold, 10 silver and 13 bronze, while Barbados ended fourth with 18 medals including three gold, seven silver and 18 bronze.



Jamaica ended with four championship records on the final night.



The championship records came from Fedrick Dacres, who won the Boys Under-17 Discus with a throw of 59.99 metres; Odane Skeen, who won the Boys Under-17 200-metres in 20.84 to complete the sprint double; Samantha Elliott, who took the Girls Under-20 100-metre hurdles in 13.42 and Kemoy Campbell, who broke his 2009 mark in the Men’s 5,000 Open.



Campbell clocked 14 minutes 34.34 seconds.



Jamaica extended their dominance to the Girls Under-17 200 metres when Shericka Jackson clocked 23.64 seconds to hold off her teammate Saqukine Cameron in capturing gold while Allison Peter took the Under-20 girls version.



The Caribbean track and field superpowers also swept three of the four sprint hurdles events.
