The Trade Union Federation is calling for the St. Lucia government to legalise the island’s labour code.

The federation is a grouping of most of the island trade unions in the country.

Its president, Julian Monrose, said since stakeholders discussed the code in January last year, but since then there has been no word from the government.

The code seeks to outline labour relations in St. Lucia.

A few months ago, the labour minister Edmund Estaphane, had promised that the code would be circulated for public comment before it is taken to Cabinet.

However, there has been no further announcement on the labour code since then.

Monrose says the unions want the code to be implemented and they will be writing to the labour minister outlining the position on the issue.
