Kolkata beat Daredevils

West Indies captain Chris Gayle hammered 40 runs from 21 balls to help lead Kolkata Knight Riders to a 14-run victory over Delhi Daredevils in their Indian Premier League match at Eden Gardens earlier today.



Gayle hit five fours and two sixes as Kolkata Knight Riders, batting first after winning the toss, scored 181 for three off their allotted 20 overs.



Sourav Ganguly was the top scorer for Kolkata with 54 off 46 balls, while Angelo Mathews got 46 off 28 and Manoj Tiwary 26 off 18.



Delhi Daredevils, needing 182 runs for victory, were restricted to 167 for eight with Virender Sehwag topscoring with 64 off 40 deliveries.



Ashok Dinda and Ajantha Mendis picked up two wickets apiece for Kolkata.



The result took them level on 10 points with Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the fourth-placed team.



Two other West Indies players are expected to be in action when the competition continues tomorrow.



Batsman Dwayne Smith and pacer Kemar Roach are in Deccan Chargers squad to face Royal Challengers Bangalore.
