The main opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) has filed a motion of no confidence against Labour Minister Mansoor Nadir as the dispute between a local trade union and the Russian-owned bauxite company continues.

The Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union has accused the Bauxite Company of Guyana of adopting union busting tactics in the negotiations for a new collective agreement for the bauxite workers who went on strike last November.

The PNCR says the motion, which was delivered to the National Assembly earlier this week, express a lack of confidence in Nadir over his handling of the affair.

In addition, the party has listed a number of other grievances in which it said workers have been poorly represented by the minister.

The PNCR wants the Guyana government to honour the many conventions of the International Labour Organisation to which it is a signatory.

The party also wants the Bharrat Jagdeo government to present to the National Assembly the Terms of the Agreement between Guyana and the Russian company.
