The Elections and Boundaries Commission has begun the registration of voters ahead of the looming general election in Trinidad and Tobago.

Prime Minister Patrick Manning is yet to announce a date for the polls.

He has up to 90 days after last Thursday’s dissolution of Parliament to call the poll.

In a statement, the elections commission said it would continue voter registration for the next nine days.

It also warned voters that this is the last opportunity for them to regularise their status before the election.

The commission further said in addition to the existing registration centres, six temporary area offices have been established to facilitate people who want to be on the new Voters’ List.

There were just over 900 thousand registered voters for the 2007 general election in Trinidad.
