The two major political parties in Trinidad and Tobago have launched their campaigns for general elections with big rallies.
Prime Minister Patrick Manning is said to have warned supporters of his Peoples National Movement (PNM) against apathy on election day, which is yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar of the United National Congress has accused the PNM of planning to use its housing distribution programme to influence voting in key marginal seats.
While the Elections and Boundaries Commission has begun voter registration Prime Minister Manning is yet to announce a date for the polls.
He has up to 90 days after last Thursday’s dissolution of Parliament to call the poll.
