Pollard finally comes good as Mumbai win
Struggling West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard got his first score of worth in the Indian Premier League, when he produced a devastating middle-order cameo to help fire his Mumbai Indians to a 39-run win over Delhi Daredevils today.
The right-handed Pollard smashed five sixes and two fours in an amazing, unbeaten 45 from just 13 balls as Mumbai tallied 183 for four from their allotted 20 overs, batting first at Brabourne Stadium.
He later returned with his gentle medium pace to send down four stingy overs that cost just 15 runs to help restrict Delhi to 144 for seven. His West Indies teammate Dwayne Bravo had two overs which costs 26 runs.
Andrew McDonald top scored for Delhi with an unbeaten 33 off 31 deliveries.
In the day’s other match, West Indies captain Chris Gayle could only score seven as Kolkatta Knight Riders lost by nine wickets to Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Kolkatta Knight Riders were restricted to 139 for eight off their allotted 20 overs and Chennai Super Kings replied with 143 for one with 6.2 overs to spare.
Gayle took the only wicket to fall and ended with figures of one for 35 off three overs.
As a result of the victory, Chennai Super Kings have moved to second place in the points’ table on 12 points, six behind leaders Mumbai Indians.
