Labour Minister not bothered by motion of no confidence
Guyana’s Labour Minister said he is not worried about a motion of no confidence filed in the Parliament against him last week by the main opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR).
Manzoor Nadir has accused the PNCR of playing politics while at the same time expressing confidence that his fellow members of the government will support him.
The PNCR said the motion expresses a lack of confidence in Nadir over his handling of the dispute between a local trade union and the Russian-owned Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc.
The Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union has accused bauxite company of adopting union-busting tactics in the negotiations for a new collective agreement for the workers who went on strike last November.
However, Mr Nadir has rejected the claim, saying that the labour ministry has made several attempts to have the matter settled.
