The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is reporting that Guyana has weathered the global financial and economic crisis well.

In its latest statement on Guyana, the IMF\'s executive board said that the country had sustained a solid macro-economic performance supported by prudent policies.

It quoted government figures which suggest that economic activity expanded by 3.3 per cent last year, on the back of a recovery in agriculture and continued strong gold production.

The IMF says the outlook for Guyana remains positive, although some important challenges remain.
