Immigrant rights groups in the US have sharply criticised a bill approved by the Arizona state Congress that makes it a criminal offence for a person to lack proper immigration paperwork.
One group, the National Council of La Raza, is insisting that the bill will turn all Latinos, regardless of their legal status, into suspects in their own communities.
However, Supporters of the bill say it will help bring illegal immigration under control in Arizona.
The state is the main entry point for undocumented immigrants into the US.
This latest measure will cement Arizona\'s reputation as the US state with the toughest immigration laws in the country.
The bill requires the signature of the state\'s governor to become law.
