Air chaos criticised

Several Caribbean airlines are expressing disappointment with the flight ban that has been implemented after ash from a volcano in Iceland contaminated the atmosphere.

The airlines say the total flight ban is misguided and is devastating their industry.

Officials say hundreds of travellers are now stranded in the region as a result of the decision taken by European authorities.

Some travellers have said they fear they could be stuck in the region until month-end.

One hotel manager, Ted Isaac of Jolly Beach in Antigua, has said the resort has enjoyed a small spike in the occupancy because guests have had to stay a few extra nights.

Mr. Isaac said this might balance out if those visitors who were intended to travel to Antigua change their minds and remain home.
