The United States military is to end its disaster relief mission in Haiti at the beginning of June.

However, a UN peacekeeping mission will remain in the country.

According to an American official the security situation in Haiti remains largely calm since the quake on January 12.

The US force currently stands at just over 2,000 down from 22,000 shortly after the quake.
