Tracey gives Jamaica first medal at Penns Relay
Edwin Allen High’s Ristananna Tracey handed Jamaica their first medal on today’s opening day of the 116th edition of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Tracey took the silver medal in the High School Girls’ 400-metre hurdles championship. She clocked 59.42 seconds to finish behind gold medal winner Leah Nugent of Abington, who recorded 59.15 seconds.
Jamaica’s other representative in the race Shana-Gay Tracey of Manchester High clocked 62.46 seconds for 11th place.
Jamaica will be looking to add to their medal tally later this afternoon, which will see three jumping finals, long, high and triple.
Jamaica High Schools also dominated the heats of the sprint relays.
Edwin Allen won heat one of the High School Girls’ 4 x 100 to qualify with the fastest time.
The quartet of Ann-Marie Duffus, Shawnette Lewin, Josette Campbell and Shashawna French clocked 46.21 seconds for the victory to finish ahead of Abington, who clocked 48.93.
In the High School Girls’ 4 x 100 Small Schools heats, The Queen’s School, Holmwood Technical, Herbert Morrison and Manchester High advanced with the fastest times.
The Queen’s led the qualifiers with a 46.31 seconds.
Close to 40 high school teams and six college teams from Jamaica are taking part at the Penn Relays.
