Jamaica dominates sprint relays at Penn
Jamaica High Schools have dominated the heats of the Sprint relays on today’s second day of the Penn Relays.
Camperdown, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), and Manchester High have advanced with the fastest times in the High School Boys 4 x 100 Small School relays.
Camperdown qualified with the fastest time. The quartet of Ramone Waite, Bernado Brady, Jeffery Josephs and Chevaughn Smith won Heat 4 in 41.29 seconds ahead of Burlington Township, who clocked 43.79.
STETHS recorded the second fastest qualifying time, clocking 42.14 seconds to win Heat 27, while Manchester High advanced with the third fastest time of 42.16. They won Heat 21.
In the 4 x 100 Large School relays, Wolmer’s Boy advanced with the fastest time of 40.47 seconds, ahead of Calabar High with 41.22.
St George’s College, clocked 41.71, for the fourth fastest qualifying time.
Later this evening at 6.25 p.m., four Jamaican teams will run off in the 4 x 400-metre final where a battle royal is looming with the Americans, as Benjamin Cordoza out of Oakland Gardens, New York, are the fastest qualifiers with three minutes 41.62.
Holmwood Technical are the next best qualifiers with three minutes 42.96. Edin Allen and Manchester High, three minutes 43.00 seconds flat each, and Vere Technical with three minutes 43.74 are the other Jamaican schools to advance.
