South Africa to host Champions League

South Africa will host the second edition of the Champions League 20/20 tournament.

Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi made the announcement yesterday.

However, it remains to be seen whether there will be any involvement from any English counties or players.

The tournament is scheduled to be played from September 10 to 26 but will clash with the end of the domestic season in England and a one-day series in which England will host Pakistan.

Modi, who is currently at the centre of controversy concerning alleged financial irregularities in the IPL, says venues and competing teams for the second edition of the global tournament will be finalised in the coming weeks.

The tournament comprises the top teams from the domestic 20/20 competitions in Australia, South Africa and India, the three founding boards, as well as teams from other Test-playing nations.

New South Wales and Trinidad and Tobago contested last year’s inaugural final, won by the Australian state side.
