Jamaica, South Africa face off today

Jamaica’s Reggae Boys will tackle World Cup hosts South Africa in a friendly international tonight in Frankfurt, Germany.

South Africa were due to face China but had to make new plans when the Chinese said the volcanic ash cloud over Europe hampered the trip.

As a result, the Reggae Boys were asked to fill the void at short notice and the squad arrived in Germany just 10 hours before the scheduled kick off time.

The match is slated to start this evening at 8:30 local time, which is 1:30 in the afternoon Jamaica time.

Jamaica’s 18-member squad includes only one overseas-based player in Ryan Johnson of US Major League team San Jose Earthquake.

This will be the fourth meeting between the teams with their last meeting being in November last year in Bloemfontein, South Africa. That game, like the others, ended in a draw.

Jamaica are currently ranked 78th by FIFA, while South Africa are ranked at 88th.
