A member of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission has resigned in the wake of criticisms.

Agnes Balize tendered her resignation yesterday.

This come one week after Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer criticised the commission, in the wake of a High Court ruling that declared his parliamentary seat and that of two other Cabinet ministers invalid.

Speaking at a public meeting of his ruling United Progressive Party (UPP) last Thursday, Mr Spencer said that the comments by High Court Judge, Louise Blenman, about the lack of competence of the Electoral Commission demands that action be taken.

In her resignation letter, Ms Balize said she took note of the prime minister’s suggestion that the Electoral Commission is liable for the current situation in the country and as such decided to demit office.
