US House to vote on Puerto Rico’s status

The United States House of Representatives is due to vote this week on a bill to authorise a referendum on Puerto Rico\'s constitutional future.
A House committee last year approved the Puerto Rico Democracy Bill which now goes to the full Congress.
The Bill would allow Puerto Rican voters to choose between two options: keeping the island\'s status as a US associated state, or adopting something different, which would require a second referendum.
Puerto Rico has been a US territory since 1898.
Puerto Rico\'s nearly 4 million people are US citizens, but are barred from voting for president and have no voting representation in Congress.
