STETHS retains Spaulding Cup title

St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) turned in a superb performance today to defeat Grace Shield champions, Innswood High, by seven wickets to retain the all-island Spaulding Cup title in Santa Cruz.



The Grace Headley Cup champions set a victory target of 240 runs on today’s last day of the three-day final ended on 241 for three



Openers Sheldon Samuels, 91, and Desmond Jones, 57, set the foundation for STETHS with an opening stand of 144 in 37 overs.



Captain Paul Palmer Junior was undefeated on 37.



Earlier, Innswood High, leading by 61 runs on first innings, were bowled out for 179 in their second innings after resuming on 122 for six.



Bowling for STETHS, Right-arm leg spinner Donovan Nelson ended with five for 36 in the second innings and match haul of 13 for 127.



Peat Salmon top scored for Innswood with 46, while Terrence Brown chipped in with 36.



Final scores in the match are Innswood 285 and 179, STETHS 224 and 241 for three.
