Veteran trade unionist Sir Roy Trotman has called on the David Thompson administration in Barbados to immediately increase the minimum wage.
Speaking at a rally on the weekend, Sir Roy, who is the general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union said that provisions should be made to adjusted the minimum wage this year and not in 2011.
Shop assistants are the only category of workers in Barbados with a legal minimum wage of US$2.50 per hour.
Sir Roy is contending that the minimum wage needs to be increased to prevent poor Barbadians from falling into a worst situation.
