England Women beat Sri Lanka
England Women defeated Sri Lanka Women by 83 runs in their official warm-up game today in preparation for this week’s start of the Women’s World 20/20 Championships.
The match was played at the St Paul’s Sports Complex in St Kitts.
England Women, sent in to bat by Sri Lanka Women, made 160 for five off their allotted 20 overs with Claire Taylor top scoring with 70. Jenny Gunn supported with 42 and Laura Marsh scored 24.
Eshani Lokusuriya was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka with two for 40.
Needing 161 for victory, Sri Lanka Women were bowled out for 77 off 16.3 overs against the bowling of Danielle Hazell three for nine and Holly Colvin two for 15.
In another warm-up game, India Women defeated South Africa Women by 23 runs at St Mary’s Park in St Kitts.
The women\'s event opens on Wednesday and all the first round matches will be played at Warner Park in St Kitts. West Indies are drawn in Group A, with England, Australia, and South Africa. Group B includes: Sri Lanka New Zealand, India and Pakistan.
The semis will be played at Beausejour in St Lucia and the final at Kensington Oval in Barbados on May 16.
