Campaigners label slave trade historic injustice

Historians and anti-racism campaigners say they intend to urge countries that oversaw and profited from the Atlantic slave trade to recognise it as a crime against humanity.

The activists say they will send a letter to the leaders of Britain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain next week asking them to recognise the slave trade as an historic injustice.

They have already convinced France to do so, with Paris agreeing to allow the European Memorial Foundation for the Slave Trade to launch its appeal at the French Senate on May 10.
