United States officials said the Dominican Republic has become the main Caribbean transit route for drugs smuggled into the US.
The US Joint Interagency Task Force said the Dominican Republic has lost control of its airspace.
The agency said flights transporting cocaine from Venezuela are soaring.
According to a recent State Department report, the Dominican Republic and Haiti saw a 38 percent increase in drug smuggling flights last year.
