West Indies Women start campaign on winning note
Deandra Dottin hammered an undefeated century to lead West Indies Women to a 17-run victory over South Africa Women in the opening game of the International Cricket Council Women’s World 20/20 Championship at Warner Park in St Kitts today.
Dottin slammed 112 off 45 deliveries as West Indies, sent in to bat by South Africa, piled up 175 for five off their allotted 20 overs in the Group ‘A’ game.
The 18-year-old Barbadian became the first woman to score a 20/20 international century.
Juliana Nero was the only other player to score over 20 runs. She scored 28 from 29 deliveries.
Needing 176 for victory, South Africa were restricted to 154 for four off their allotted 20 overs.
Opener Shandre Fritz top scored with 58 from 52 deliveries while Cri-Zelda Britz supported with 43 from 30 deliveries. Both lost their wicket through the run out rout.
Pamela Levine and Dottin picked up a wicket apiece for West Indies Women.
Reigning champions England and Australia will face off in the second game at 1 p.m.
