Harbour View crown Digicel Premier League champions
Harbour View were last night crowned champions of the Digicel National Premier League with two round of matches remaining in the 2009-2010 season.
The ‘Stars of the East’ achieved the feat after defeating fifth place Boys’ Town 2-1 at the Harbour View stadium and their nearest rivals Tivoli Gardens, the defending champions, went down 2-1 to fourth place St Georges at Lynch Park in Portland.
As a result of the victory, Harbour View have now moved to an unassailable 73 points, seven clear Tivoli Gardens.
Markino Blackburn put Harbour View ahead in the 50th minute but Peter Keyes equalised two minutes later. Jermaine Hue restored Harbour View lead late in the game by sending a 25-yard free kick into the back of the net.
In the other game in the elite group, third place Waterhouse edged sixth place Village 1-0 at Drewsland Stadium.
Meanwhile, Portmore United, Humble Lions and Rivoli United picked up valuable points in their quest to remain in the league for another season.
Rivoli United outscored August Town 3-2 at Spanish Town Prison Oval, Humble Lions and Sporting Central Academy battled to a goalless draw at Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon, while Portmore United and Arnett Gardens also played to a goalless draw, this at Anthony Spaulding Complex.
