Caribbean credit unions say they have donated more than US$100,000 to assist Haiti’s relief efforts.
The St Kitts-based Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) said the funds have been channeled through the Worldwide Credit Unions Haiti Disaster Relief Fund.
The organization said the funds mobilised are being used to provide short-term emergency relief in the form of food, water and tents in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, and nearby Leogane, the earthquake\'s epicentre.
According to the CCCU, intermediate efforts are also underway to develop longer term plans to rebuild damaged credit unions in Haiti.
