Naggo Head takes early lead

Reigning champions Naggo Head Primary have taken the early lead in the four-day INSPORTS/Swizzle Primary Schools Athletics Championship at the National Stadium.



After two finals, Naggo Head have surged ahead with 16 points, six ahead of Spanish Town on 10, while St Benedict and Bridgeport Primary hold down third place with nine points each.



Naggo Head moved ahead following a one-two finish in the girls’ high jump open final.



Cashema Carter took the event with a record-equaling jump of 1.48 metres. Carter’s schoolmate Shanice Hall set the mark in 2005.



Second place went to Kelcian Andrade who cleared 1.45metres, while Spanish Town’s Trisanya Mitchell cleared 1.40 metres for third place.



The days other final was won by Amal Ellis of Bridgeport Primary.



Ellis had given Bridgeport the early lead with nine points after winning the Boys Long Jump Open with a leap of 5.09 metres.



Lasranz Campbell of Portsmouth was second with a leap of 5.05 metres and St Benedict’s Daniel Dawkins was third with a leap of 4.90 metres.



Today’s third day is scheduled to start this morning at 9 a.m. will feature two other finals.
