Fire destroys Guyana hospital

An early morning blaze destroyed part of the privately-owned St Joseph Mercy Hospital, but officials say all patients have been accounted for at the 60-year-old medical institution.

They say the patients were evacuated to several other hospitals including the state-owned Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The fire reportedly destroyed the main building housing medical records and other important pieces of medical equipment.

Fire officials believe that the fire may have been the result of an electrical problem.
