WI women’s coach says team can win World Cup

West Indies women’s cricket coach Sherwin Campbell says his team has a good chance to beat New Zealand and reach the final of the 20/20 World Cup.

Campbell says the players have what is required to win the semi-final and make it to the final in Barbados.

However, he says it will require all the players making a contribution and not just depending on the main players in the team.

West Indies have been in great form, winning two of their three preliminary matches against South Africa and title-holders England.

New Zealand, meanwhile, topped Group B with a run of impressive form. They beat India by 10 runs, crushed Sri Lanka by 47 runs before cruising past Pakistan by six wickets.

Campbell, a former West Indies vice-captain, admitted his side would have to prepare thoroughly in order to beat the Kiwis.

If West Indies reach the title game, it will be the first time they would have made the final of a major International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament.

The West Indies arrived in St Lucia yesterday ahead of their clash with New Zealand set for Friday afternoon.

Australia Women and India Women will meet in the first semi-final tomorrow.
