Jamaicans including Bolt to compete in South Korea
World 100 and 200-metre record-holder Usain Bolt is among 13 Jamaicans down to compete at the 2010 Daegu Pre-Championships Meeting in South Korea today.
Bolt will take on fellow Jamaicans Mario Forsythe, Kenroy Anderson and Michael Frater, plus Americans Rae Edwards, Mike Rodgers, Trell Kimmons and Travis Padgett in his first international 100 metres this year.
The race is scheduled to start at 6.50 a.m. Jamaica time.
The event will act as a warm up to Bolt\'s season, during which he is scheduled to take on rivals Asafa Powell of Jamaica and Tyson Gay of the United States in the Diamond League.
Bolt has promised to run a fast time and should easily eclipse the world-leading 9.95 seconds this year set by American Ivory Williams.
In the women’s 100 metres, scheduled for 6.40 a.m., Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown will face off with American Carmelita Jeter and Bahamian Chandra Sturrup. Also competing are two other Americans Gloria Asumnu and Marshevet Myers.
Other Jamaicans down to compete are Marvin Anderson in the 200 metres, Jermaine Gonzales in the 400 metres, Andre Drummond in the 800 metres, Dwight Thomas in the 110-metre hurdles, Schillonie Calvert and Rosemarie in the women’s 200, Kenia Sinclair in the women’s 800 and Vonette Dixon in the women’s 100-metre hurdles.
