Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) says it has received government assurances that its operations won\'t be undermined by a new state-owned fibre-optic cable.

GT&T says it plans to significantly increase Internet speed and eliminate disruptions from July when it commissions a new US$30 million submarine fibre-optic cable from Trinidad.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Singh, says his company has been told that the government cable won\'t threaten GT&T\'s operations.

Meanwhile, the Guyana government is preparing to put in place a similar facility from Brazil.
