Haiti\'s top Red Cross official says the country is still struggling to provide homes, sanitation and basic health care to hundreds of thousands of people affected by the January 12 earthquake.

Haitian Red Cross Society President, Michaele Amedee Gedeon, says the Caribbean nation was ill-prepared for the devastating quake that killed up to 300,000 people and left many more wounded and homeless.

She says the situation is still very difficult for the people.

The Red Cross movement has so far received $800 million in funds and material contributions for Haiti.

It expects to be providing emergency aid there for an unprecedented 12 months.
