Global press freedom organisations, including the Vienna-based International Press Institute, have warned the Bermuda government that its media council bill could damage its reputation around the world.
The bill, which was tabled in the House of Assembly last Friday, could be debated and approved by legislators this week.
The proposed legislation seeks to regulate the media in Bermuda.
The media groups have described the legislation has deeply flawed.
They say the proposed council would be inherently biased, infringe upon press freedom and could prevent the free flow of information.
The groups urged the government to withdraw the draft legislation and hold discussions with the island\'s media industry.
