Guyana’s trade union blast administration

Guyana’s largest trade union has blasted the Bharrat Jagdeo administration for implementing relief measures, including a five percent salary hike, without consulting with labour leaders.

President of the Guyana Public Service Union, Patrick Yarde, said that the union, which represents about 60 percent of the country’s public workers, was disgusted with the approach President Jagdeo had taken on the matter.

Yarde said Mr. Jagdeo would have to stop what he describes as an autocratic approach to dealing with workers\' issues.

He said while the increase is a move in the right direction it is still inadequate.
