WI face crisis after injured players to miss series

West Indies, trailing South Africa 2-o in the five-match One-Day International series, were plunged further into crisis as three players were forced out of the remainder of the limited-over games with injury.

Key batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan, speedster Kemar Roach and left-arm spinner Nikita Miller will miss the remainder of the series and will return home to their respective territories.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) are expected to name replacements for the trio today, with the third One Day International scheduled to bowl off in Dominica on Friday.

Sarwan, a vital member of the Windies batting line-up, suffered a right hamstring strain during the second One Day on Monday which the regional side lost by 17 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in Antigua.

Roach missed the game with a sore left ankle while Miller bowled just 17 balls before being forced out of the match with a right side strain.

There is also worry over opener Dale Richards who scored a half-century on Monday after a last-minute call up to the side. He sustained a leg injury during his innings.

The beleaguered side has been boosted by the news on veteran left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul who is expected to return for the fourth One-Day after missing the last match because of injury.

Dashing 20-year-old left-hander Darren Bravo is scheduled to join up with the squad shortly, after being called up from the West Indies ‘A’ tour of Bangladesh.

West Indies are in a slump, losing the two-match 20/20 International series 2-0 and going down in the first two games of the One-Day series.
