World champion suffers calf injury

World and Olympic 5,000 and 10,000-metre champion Kenenisa Bekele has a ruptured calf muscle that could end his season.

Bekele's manager Jos Hermans says that scans in the Netherlands revealed the extent of Bekele's nagging injury.

Hermans says Bekele has a small rupture again and could be out for four to six weeks.

He says the long layoff would make it hard for the Ethiopian to come back this season.

Bekele turns 28 in two weeks.
