Jamaican Usain Bolt withdraws from meet due to injury
Triple Olympic champion and world record holder Usain Bolt has withdrawn from the June 12 New York Diamond League meeting with a tendon injury.
Organisers were notified yesterday by Bolt’s management team that the sprinter is suffering from an inflammation of his tendon.
A release from Bolt’s management team said the Jamaican developed stiffness in his Achilles tendon last week and after careful consultation with Dr. Hans Müller-Wohlfahrt in Munich, he was advised to take a 2 to 3 week break as a precautionary measure to avoid risking further damage.
Bolt had been expected to face American Tyson Gay in a 100 metres showdown between the world's two fastest men.
The meet, scheduled for the Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, will be the fifth stop on the inaugural 14-meet, international Diamond League circuit.
