Police commissioner criticises former PM
Grenada’s Police Commissioner James Clarkson has accused former Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell of manipulating police officers to provide him with private security even though he is aware they were violating the laws.
Two policemen were suspended after they accompanied Mr Mitchell to a cricket game in April without authorisation from the high command.
Commissioner Clarkson says the decision to suspend the two policemen was based on the fact that they violated the Police Standing Orders.
However, the cops were returned to their jobs after an internal investigation showed that they did not realise what they were doing.
The former Prime Minister had refused to participate in the investigation, but sent a letter to Commissioner saying he never hired the two policemen to be his personal bodyguards.
