St Lucia Government to present new Labour Code

The St Lucian government says it’s confident that a re-drafted Labour Code will be presented to the Parliament by July.

The original labour code was passed in 2006 by the St. Lucia Labour Party government.

However, the subsequent Stephenson King administration and the private sector have criticised the legislation.

Attorney General, Dr. Nicholas Frederick, says the labour ministry has consulted various stakeholders on amendments to the Code.

He says the results of the consultation have now been referred to his office.

However, both the Trade Union Federation and the St. Lucia Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Agriculture say since the Code was discussed in January last year, there has been no further word from the government.
