Race for premiership spots still wide open
Benfica carved out a 1-0 victory over Reno, while Cavalier were held to a 1-1 draw by Meadows to leave the race for the two spots in next season’s Digicel Premier League still open following today’s penultimate round of the Confederation playoffs.
The results mean that Cavalier will enter the last round of the four-team playoffs on Sunday with a one-point lead.
Cavalier, the Kinston and St Andrew Football Association champions, are on eight points, followed by Reno of Westmoreland and Benfica of St Ann on seven each, while St Catherine-based Meadows are at the bottom with five points and still in the race.
Damion James scored the all-important goal for Benfica in the 58th minute to give his team an away victory over Reno at Frome Sports Complex.
Over at Ferdie Neita Park, Loxley Thompson scored in the 49th minute to give Cavalier the lead, but Sivaun Scott cancelled the lead in the 65th minute.
