Asafa Powell to headline Golden Gala in Rome

Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell will headline the Golden Gala in Rome tomorrow, the latest event on the elite Diamond League series.



Powell is down to contest the men’s 100 metres, which is scheduled to start at 1:55 in the afternoon Jamaica time.



The race also includes two other Jamaicans, Mario Forsythe and Lerone Clarke.



Powell, the former 100-metre world record holder has dominated the 100 metres so far this season in the absence of his countryman, double world record holder Usain Bolt and American Tyson Gay.



The women’s 100 metres, set to start at 1:35, will feature two Jamaicans in World and Olympic 100-metre champion Shelly-Ann Fraser and Aleen Bailey.



Tricia Smith will be the first of the 13 Jamaicans in action when she contest the Women’s Triple Jump at 12:20 p.m.



The remaining Jamaicans down to run are Kalise Spencer in the women’s 400-metre hurdles, Mardrea Hyman in the women’s 3,000 steeplechase, Ainsley Waugh, Marvin Anderson and Steve Mullings in the men’s 200 metres, Dwight Thomas in the men’s 110-metre hurdles and Jermaine Gonzales in the men’s 400 metres.
