CARICOM labour laws under scrutiny

Canada is to examine CARICOM’s labour laws and environmental standards under a new trade deal.
The Canada- CARICOM Free Trade Agreement will replace the 20-year-old Caribbean Canada (CaribCan) pact.
Both sides have already held two rounds of negotiations and a third is planned for Ontario before year-end.
Canada's diplomatic representative to the region, Francois Montour, says the closer inspection aims to ensure that Caribbean workers benefit from economic growth resulting from trade agreements while respecting labour rights.
